Sept 27, 2024 – Astro, Malaysia’s leading content creation and entertainment company, launched its first drama equipped with an audio description track, aiming to provide better accessibility for visually impaired viewers. The initiative, introduced at a special screening in Kuala Lumpur, marked a significant step towards inclusivity in the country’s entertainment industry.
The drama, Dari Mata Turun Ke Hati, is the first local production to offer this feature, enabling visually impaired audiences to enjoy the show through detailed audio narration. Supported by the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development, the screening was attended by YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, the Minister, and members of the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB).
Astro’s corporate social responsibility initiative saw the organisation hosting a special viewing session for MAB, allowing participants to experience the full impact of the audio description feature. Alongside YB Nancy Shukri, cast members Arabella, Azri Safix, Afiq Amidon, Darien, and Qistina Khaled were present to share the moment with the audience.
Speaking at the event, YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri said, “This initiative by Astro is a commendable effort to ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can access and enjoy quality content. It is a step towards inclusivity, and I hope more companies in the entertainment sector follow suit.”
