KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 – On the momentous occasion of his inauguration as the eighth President of Indonesia on October 20, Prabowo Subianto delivered a speech that captured the aspirations and hopes of the Indonesian people.

Addressing the Plenary Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly, he outlined his vision for the nation, emphasizing unity and progress while reaffirming his commitment to Indonesia’s future.

Taking the helm from outgoing President Joko Widodo, Prabowo set a tone of optimism and determination, aiming to build on his predecessor’s achievements and chart a path toward a stronger, more equitable Indonesia.

A Seasoned Leader with a Deep Commitment to Indonesia

Prabowo Subianto brings a wealth of experience to the presidency, shaped by his decades-long service to Indonesia. Born into a prominent family with a history of public service, he followed in the footsteps of his father, Sumitro Djojohadikusumo, an esteemed economist and former cabinet minister. Prabowo’s early exposure to national affairs laid the foundation for his dedication to public service.

After graduating from the Indonesian Military Academy in 1974, Prabowo embarked on a distinguished military career, rising to the rank of Lieutenant General. His service included leading special operations and strategic missions, which earned him recognition as a skilled military strategist. This background has shaped his understanding of the importance of national security and his commitment to ensuring Indonesia’s sovereignty.

Upon transitioning to the political arena, Prabowo continued to serve the nation in various capacities, including as a minister and legislator, where he advocated for policies to strengthen Indonesia’s economy and social fabric.

His presidential election win marks the culmination of years of perseverance and a commitment to bringing meaningful change to Indonesia.

A Call for National Unity and Strength

President Prabowo began his speech by expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him and for the support of the Indonesian people throughout his journey to the presidency.

He paid homage to past leaders who laid the groundwork for Indonesia’s development, emphasizing the importance of national unity in overcoming future challenges.

“Indonesia has faced many trials, and each time we emerged stronger. Our strength lies in our unity, diversity, and resilience,” Prabowo stated, setting the tone for an administration that seeks to bridge divides and foster inclusiveness.

Economic Growth with Equity

Prabowo pledged to prioritize economic growth that benefits all Indonesians, particularly the underprivileged. His economic strategy aims to boost domestic industries, create jobs, and attract foreign investment while ensuring that the wealth generated is equitably shared across all segments of society.

“Our goal is to build a strong economy that works for everyone,” he declared. “We must develop our natural resources, empower our workers, and ensure that no one is left behind in our journey towards progress.”

Security and Sovereignty as Cornerstones

With his background in the military, President Prabowo highlighted the need for a robust defense system to safeguard Indonesia’s sovereignty. He promised to modernize the military, strengthen border protection, and maintain Indonesia’s stance as a sovereign, independent nation that stands tall on the global stage.

Prabowo reassured citizens and the international community that Indonesia’s defense strategy would not be aggressive but would ensure peace and stability in Southeast Asia. “A secure nation is a prosperous nation. We will uphold our sovereignty with dignity, diplomacy, and strength,” he affirmed.

Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship

Recognizing Indonesia’s rich biodiversity and environmental challenges, Prabowo committed to sustainable development practices. He emphasized the need for policies that balance economic growth with environmental protection, aiming to leave a legacy of clean air, water, and forests for future generations.

“Our development must not come at the cost of our environment. We owe it to our children to protect our forests, rivers, and seas,” he said, announcing plans for stricter environmental regulations and incentives for green technologies.

Championing Education and Healthcare

Prabowo also promised significant improvements in education and healthcare, key areas to enhancing Indonesia’s human capital. He outlined plans to increase funding for schools, provide scholarships for underprivileged students, and improve healthcare services, particularly in rural regions.

“The strength of our nation is in our people,” he stated. “We will invest in education to produce skilled workers and in healthcare to ensure our citizens live healthy, productive lives.”

A Leader for the People

Throughout his speech, President Prabowo’s tone reflected a leader who sees himself as a servant of the people. He called on every Indonesian to work together, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious backgrounds, in the spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) to realize Indonesia’s full potential.

“Our journey ahead will not be easy, but I am confident that together, we will succeed,” he concluded. “I dedicate myself to serving you with honesty, dedication, and a heart full of hope.”
