RAYONG (Thailand), July 5 – BYD, a major Chinese automaker has marked a significant milestone in Southeast Asia’s automotive history with the opening of its first electric vehicle (EV) plant in Rayong, Thailand.

This pioneering facility is not only a celebration of BYD’s 8 millionth new energy vehicle, the Dolphin model, but also a testament to the region’s commitment to sustainable transportation.

“Launching Southeast Asia’s first EV plant is a proud moment for BYD China and a major step towards a greener future,” said Wang Chuanfu, CEO and President of BYD. “Our Thailand plant will serve as a beacon of innovation and excellence, producing 150,000 units annually and creating around 10,000 jobs.”

The inauguration ceremony, held on July 4, was attended by notable figures including Thailand’s Minister of Industry, Ms. Pimphattra Wichaikul; Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, Mr. Han Zhiqiang; and Secretary General of Thailand Board of Investment, Mr. Narit Therdsteerasukdi.

Completed in just 16 months, the Rayong plant is equipped for end-to-end production, including stamping, painting, welding, and assembly. “This plant embodies our passion for innovation and our relentless pursuit of excellence,” Wang Chuanfu added. “It’s a leap into the future of the EV market, driven by BYD China’s vision and expertise.”

BYD’s strategic expansion into Southeast Asia with this plant not only propels the region into the forefront of the EV movement but also significantly boosts the local economy, showcasing China’s role in shaping a sustainable automotive industry.
