Kuala Lumpur, Oct 10 – The Malaysian Chinese Plays Exhibition, organised by the Persatuan Angkatan Seni Lakon Interaksi Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor (ASLI), opens today at the GMBB Creative Community Hall, Jalan Robertson, Kuala Lumpur. Running until November 10, the exhibition showcases the development of Chinese stage plays in Malaysia since 1988.
ASLI Chairman, Goh You Ping, highlighted the significance of this event, which is supported by the National Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN). “The exhibition is a tribute to the journey of Malaysian Chinese plays since the establishment of the Drama Department at the Malaysian Art Institute (MIA) in 1988,” he said, adding that it commemorates the contributions of stage artists.
Attendees will have the opportunity to explore a range of materials, including texts, photos, posters, costumes, and stage sets, offering a comprehensive look into the evolution of Chinese stage plays in Malaysia. Goh also shared that the exhibition aims to inspire a renewed interest in Malaysian plays and stage arts.
Two forums will also be held during the exhibition, focusing on stage arts education and its influence on cultural arts, featuring renowned figures such as Leong Chi Sin and Ho Shih Phin.
