Sepang, July 2 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has commenced a strategic working visit to Italy, France and Brazil, with the primary aim of advancing Malaysia’s economic interests, fostering high-value investments, and enhancing the country’s role in multilateral cooperation.
The visit underscores the Government’s commitment to positioning Malaysia as a competitive, reliable and reform-driven economy. It will focus on deepening bilateral engagements in key growth sectors, including defence technology, energy transition, digital economy, and advanced manufacturing — all of which are central to creating high-income opportunities for Malaysians.

In Rome, the Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, as well as engage directly with leading Italian industrial players to explore new avenues for trade and investment.
Discussions are expected to cover cyber defence, maritime and underwater technologies, and collaboration in higher education and vocational training.
In Paris, the Prime Minister will meet with President Emmanuel Macron and lead a high-level roundtable with top French corporations.
This will be complemented by a keynote address at Sorbonne University titled “Southeast Asia and Europe: Recalibrating the Terms of Engagement,” where he is expected to articulate Malaysia’s approach to balanced international partnerships, inclusive growth, and interregional cooperation.
The final leg of the visit will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Prime Minister Anwar will participate in the 17th BRICS Summit, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Malaysia attends as a BRICS Partner Country and in its capacity as Chair of ASEAN 2025, reaffirming its growing diplomatic influence in the Global South.
This visit reflects the Madani Government’s proactive foreign policy, guided by a strong belief in multilateralism grounded in international law, sustainable development, and a people-first approach to diplomacy.
The Prime Minister has expressed hope that the outcomes will deliver long-term benefits for Malaysia’s economy and people.
