KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has lauded Singapore as a key partner in promoting regional peace and stability, while expressing confidence that the upcoming Malaysia–Singapore Leaders’ Retreat in December will chart a new phase of cooperation between the two neighbours.
Anwar said this following his meeting with Singapore’s Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing, who paid him a courtesy visit here on Tuesday. He described the meeting as a reflection of the “increasingly close” bilateral relationship between Malaysia and Singapore.
“Our discussions centred on collaboration in security and regional defence, in line with ASEAN’s aspirations to preserve peace and stability in Southeast Asia,” Anwar shared on his official Facebook page.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his appreciation to Singapore for supporting the ongoing Cambodia–Thailand peace dialogue, noting that such contributions strengthened ASEAN’s collective role in conflict resolution.
In addition, Anwar extended congratulations to Singapore on the republic’s 60th National Day and expressed optimism about the December Leaders’ Retreat, which he said would serve as an important platform to broaden cooperation across multiple areas.

“The visit reflects our shared commitment to deepen bilateral ties and work together in ensuring a peaceful, stable, and prosperous ASEAN,” Anwar added.
Malaysia and Singapore, bound by geography and history, have consistently reinforced collaboration in defence, trade, and diplomacy. The December meeting of leaders is expected to set fresh directions for bilateral cooperation while reinforcing mutual trust.
