
Johor, Jan 11 – In a momentous occasion, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia’s Prime Minister, is set to join hands with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in commemorating the completion of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project. The milestone marks a significant advancement in cross-border connectivity, with the connecting span between Singapore and Malaysia for the RTS Link viaduct now complete.
This joint venture anticipates facilitating up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with the passenger service slated to commence by the end of 2026. The collaborative efforts between the two nations highlight a commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and fostering stronger ties.
Following the RTS Link ceremony, both Prime Ministers will witness the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). Anwar and Lee aim to bolster economic collaboration by tapping into the complementary strengths of their respective countries. The JS-SEZ initiative seeks to improve cross-border flows of goods, investments, and people, contributing to the economic growth of the Iskandar development region.
Accompanying Anwar, key Malaysian officials will join the delegation, emphasizing the significance of this cooperative venture. The delegation from Singapore, led by Lee , includes Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, Minister for National Development Desmond Lee, Acting Minister for Transport Chee Hong Tat, Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development Faishal Ibrahim, along with officials from various ministries.
“The RTS Link marks a significant milestone in our cross-border connectivity,” stated Lee. The anticipated passenger service commencement by the end of 2026 reflects the shared commitment of both nations to fostering regional integration.
“The JS-SEZ aims to improve cross-border flows of goods, investments, and people,” emphasized an official statement. Anwar expressed confidence that the collaboration would harness the complementary strengths of Malaysia and Singapore for the mutual benefit of the Iskandar region.
