Jerlun, Nov 1 — A 45-year-old farmer was found beheaded in a paddy field in Kampung Pida 3, Jerlun, Kedah, after allegedly being attacked with a machete by his 38-year-old brother-in-law. The incident, which occurred around 7:05pm on October 31, has triggered a murder investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Kubang Pasu District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim said police received a report from a member of the public about a fight between two men.

“The suspect was found holding a machete and was arrested without resistance. The victim’s head was discovered about 30 metres from the suspect’s house,” he said.

Before surrendering, the suspect reportedly attempted to attack police officers but was persuaded to drop the weapon after 15 minutes. The machete, measuring 30 centimetres, was seized at the scene.

The victim’s body was sent to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar for post-mortem. Police confirmed that neither the victim nor the suspect had prior criminal records. The motive is still under investigation, though neighbours described the suspect as emotionally unstable and recently moved in with relatives.

Authorities have urged the public not to speculate and to allow the investigation to proceed.
