Kuala Lumpur, Nov 5 — Malaysian rapper and filmmaker Namewee has been remanded for six days following the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin, whose body was discovered in a hotel room in Jalan Conlay, Kuala Lumpur on October 22. The case, initially treated as sudden death, was reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code after forensic updates.
Dang Wangi District Police Chief ACP Sazalee Adam confirmed the remand order was issued today. > “We have obtained a remand order on the suspect from 5 November to 10 November to assist investigations,” he said.
Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, surrendered to police this morning after authorities said they were unable to locate him the day before. On Instagram, he stated he had travelled from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur to cooperate with investigators and had no intention of fleeing.
Police said Namewee was the last person seen with the victim at 1:40pm inside a room at the Banyan Tree Hotel. He was previously arrested for drug possession after nine blue pills suspected to be ecstasy were found in the room. Urine tests reportedly showed positive results for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC.
The influencer, also known as Iris Hsieh, was found dead hours later. Investigators have not disclosed the cause of death or whether other suspects are being considered. The case has drawn widespread attention across Malaysia and Taiwan.
