Malaysia condemns the Kerman bombings and urges global action

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim – Malaysia strongly called for the immediate arrest and prosecute of those who planned atrocious act of violence.

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 –Malaysia has expressed its outrage and sorrow over the deadly bombings that hit the Kerman Province near Iran, killing nearly more than a hundred people and injuring hundreds more.

Condemning the violence, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended the nation’s sympathy and support to the Iranian people whilst urging the international community to take action against the perpetrators and the culture of violence that plagues the region.

Deadly explosions occurred in the Iranian city of Kerman killing more than hundred civilians.

In a statement via his social media postings, Anwar said Malaysia has reaffirmed its stance against any kind of violence inflicted on the innocent.

Expressing deep concern over the alarming trend of violence Anwar said: “It has been almost three months since the world witnessed Israel’s massacre of innocents in Palestine and the latest in Lebanon two days ago.”

“Malaysia has extended its sincere condolences and emphasised the importance of unity in times of grief to the Islamic Republic of Iran and its people. The nation has firmly demanded the quick arrest and prosecution of those responsible for orchestrating this heinous act of violence,” Anwar said..

Looking ahead into the New Year, the prime minister said: “Malaysia has appealed to the global community to unite in opposition to the prevailing culture of violence and greed. The nation has encouraged collective efforts to protect and prioritise the wellbeing of humanity on a global scale.”

Wednesday’s twin explosions occurred outside an event near the tomb of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps General Qassem Soleimani in the Iranian city of Kerman.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was reported as saying that the capable security and law enforcement forces will soon track down and punish the perpetrators of this cowardly act.
