PUTRAJAYA, Oct 9, 2025 – Malaysia has welcomed the agreement reached between Hamas and Israel on the first phase of the “Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict,” describing it as a critical step towards ending months of suffering and devastation.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the progress in negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza offered “a semblance of hope after months of unbearable suffering and destruction.” He stressed that every effort that can bring an end to the violence and protect innocent lives must be pursued with sincerity and urgency.
“Malaysia stands in full solidarity with the people of Palestine in their quest for justice, dignity and statehood. I urge all relevant parties to seize this opportunity to move towards a comprehensive and enduring peace,” he said.
The Prime Minister emphasised that while the agreement marks an important beginning, the road to peace remains long and difficult.
“Malaysia supports this spirit of understanding not because we submit, but because we believe that bold and principled diplomacy can open the path to genuine peace. We are not fully satisfied, but we will not stop trying. Every step must aim to end the tyranny and oppression that has worsened with time.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), in its statement, confirmed that Malaysia welcomes the agreement, which was reached in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, on Oct 8 under the facilitation of the United States, Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, and other international partners. Malaysia commended U.S. President Donald J. Trump for his leadership and efforts to broker the plan.
The MFA noted that the agreement includes the exchange of captives and prisoners, the full withdrawal of Israeli occupying forces, and steps toward reconstruction and the realisation of self-determination for the people of Gaza. “This development is a crucial step to ending the genocide, destruction, and starvation in Gaza,” the ministry said, calling on all parties to swiftly and comprehensively implement the agreed terms.
Malaysia reaffirmed its readiness to work with the United States and the wider international community to secure durable peace in Gaza and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and ultimately to establish an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
