Malaysia Must Lead with Conscience: Anwar’s Aidiladha Message on Sacrifice, Wisdom and Solidarity

The Prime Minister urges Malaysians to draw strength from Prophet Ibrahim’s legacy and extend compassion to those suffering, especially in Gaza

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 JUNE – As Muslims across Malaysia and the world observe Hari Raya Aidiladha, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the nation to uphold the spirit of prophetic sacrifice, moral clarity, and global solidarity — values he believes Malaysia must continue to embody on the world stage.

In a message posted on his official Facebook page, Anwar reflected on the timeless story of Prophet Ibrahim a.s. and Prophet Ismail a.s., whose obedience to God’s command has become a cornerstone of Islamic devotion.

“The nobility and spirit of Hari Raya Aidiladha are inseparable from the inspiring story of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail, whose sacrifice reflected absolute obedience to Allah SWT,” he said.

Known as the Festival of Sacrifice, Aidiladha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in submission to divine will — a test of faith ultimately met with divine mercy. The festival, which also coincides with the peak of the Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah, is marked by qurban (ritual sacrifice), charitable giving, and community prayer.

Anwar used the occasion to highlight a deeper layer of Prophet Ibrahim’s legacy: his role not only as a father and prophet but also as a courageous advocate of truth through reasoned dialogue.

“Prophet Ibrahim did not preach in monologue. He engaged his people through reasoned discourse, inviting them to reflect and evaluate truth using sound intellect,” Anwar said.
“This model of dakwah builds a society that is thoughtful, self-disciplined, and morally grounded — the kind of society Malaysia must continue striving to be.”

The Prime Minister also drew attention to the moral imperative of standing in solidarity with oppressed communities around the world. In particular, he referenced the ongoing suffering in Gaza and urged Malaysians not to forget those who continue to defend their dignity amid crisis.

“As we raise the takbir of Aidiladha and declare Allahu Akbar, we must not be detached from the struggles of our brothers and sisters in Gaza and other regions gripped by injustice and suffering,” he said.

Anwar offered prayers for all Malaysians, especially the 31,600 pilgrims from Malaysia currently performing the Hajj, wishing them good health, resilience, and divine protection as they complete the sacred rites.

He concluded his message by quoting Surah Al-Hajj, verse 37 — a reminder that the heart of sacrifice lies not in physical offe

-rings, but in sincerity and devotion:

“Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is your piety… So give glad tidings to those who strive to do good.”

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahil hamd,” Anwar declared — affirming the spiritual weight of the occasion and Malaysia’s responsibility to lead with conscience, both at home and in global affairs.
