Bangkok, Nov 9 — The Miss Universe Organization has barred Thai pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil from all official activities of the 74th Miss Universe competition after he publicly berated Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, during a livestreamed pre-pageant event.

The confrontation, which occurred on November 4 in Bangkok, saw Nawat accuse Bosch of being “disrespectful” and “ungrateful” in front of delegates and media. The incident quickly went viral, prompting several contestants to walk out in solidarity with Bosch.

“I want to express my solidarity and support to all delegates representing the 122 countries… I will not allow the values of respect and dignity toward women to be violated,” said Miss Universe President Raúl Rocha Cantú in a recorded statement.

Nawat, who also heads Miss Grand International, later apologized during a press conference. “I am human. I didn’t want to do anything like that,” he said tearfully. “I had not intended to harm anyone. I was emotional and I regret my words.”

Bosch responded by calling for respect across all nationalities. “We deserve to be treated with dignity, regardless of nationality,” she said.

The Miss Universe finals are scheduled for November 21 in Thailand. Organizers have reaffirmed their commitment to contestant safety and professionalism.
