Kuala Lumpur, Nov 5 — The Muslim-Friendly Watch (MFW) has officially dissolved following intense backlash over its “Muslim Choice” label, which religious authorities deemed misleading and syubhah.
The label, introduced to promote Muslim-friendly businesses, drew criticism from JAKIM and state religious departments for potentially confusing consumers about halal status. Penang Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Sukki Othman warned the label could undermine public trust.
Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar ordered the label’s removal, and JAKIM issued formal warnings. MFW responded by terminating all operations and systems linked to the label and cooperating with the Registrar of Societies under the Societies Act 1966.
In a public apology, MFW expressed regret and accepted all decisions made by religious authorities, citing their commitment to preserving harmony and Islamic integrity.
The controversy has reignited national debate on religious terminology and halal enforcement, with calls for clearer guidelines and stricter oversight.
