Putrajaya, Jan 12 – In a statement on Wednesday (Jan 10), Toh Puan Naimah Khalid, wife of Tun Daim Zainuddin, a former finance minister and businessman of Malaysia, addressed concerns over her husband’s reputation, expressing frustration over what she perceives as persecution for his success. “But my husband is persecuted for that success,” she stated, highlighting the challenges her family is facing amid allegations of corruption.
Naimah drew attention to Daim successful business background before entering public office, emphasizing the positive impact of hard work on the nation’s economy and job market. She lamented a current campaign of disinformation and misperception, accusing the prime minister of suggesting illegal wealth without providing evidence.
She and her two sons, Muhammad Amin Zainuddin and Muhammad Amir Zainuddin, were summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to provide statements regarding the investigation into Daim’s assets.
“Yet, this is exactly what the prime minister has been doing by suggesting on several recent occasions that my husband has illegal wealth,” Naimah asserted, expressing concern about the potential perpetuation of false stereotypes about the capabilities of Malays in business.
The statement also addressed the family’s cooperation with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), even as they question the motives behind the investigation. “But be that as it may, we have extended our cooperation to the MACC as required by law,” Naimah stated, maintaining confidence in their eventual vindication.
Naimah concluded with emphasizing that the current situation not only affects her family but raises broader concerns about the targeting of successful Malay businessmen.
