This annual event, hosted by the National Archives of Malaysia, aims to honor and remember the immense contributions of Tunku Abdul Rahman, a key figure in Malaysia’s path to independence.

In his welcoming speech, YB Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Minister of National Unity, emphasized the program’s significance, stating that it is part of the ‘This is Our Heritage‘ initiative. The event features an exclusive exhibition titled “Negarawan Sejuta Jasa,” which showcases special collections from Tunku’s life, including the iconic independence car. The exhibition also utilizes digital standee kiosks to present narratives, offering a modern twist to the historical display.
Aaron expressed his gratitude to various departments for their involvement, including the National Civic Academy, the Federal Territory Education Department Kuala Lumpur, the Selangor Education Department, and the Youth and Sports Department of the Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur, for their contributions to the success of the program.

Reflecting on Tunku Abdul Rahman’s vision, the Minister highlighted the late leader’s aspiration for a Malaysian society where citizens are valued equally, irrespective of race, religion, or culture. He also acknowledged the ongoing efforts of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation (YTAR), established in 1966, which has provided financial assistance to over 9,000 students pursuing higher education. The Foundation plans to aid more than 1,000 students in the next five years through initiatives like the Tunku Abdul Rahman Scholarship and programs such as Closing The Gap and Future Ready.
“To appreciate and commemorate the contributions and services of the late Tunku, the National Memorial Committee has decided to dedicate a memorial for Tunku. The funding for the construction of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Memorial comes from government funds and public contributions, especially from private companies, in line with the Malaysian Incorporated concept introduced at that time,” said the Minister.
In concluding his speech, Aaron invited all Malaysians to visit the Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Memorial on Jalan Dato’ Onn, Kuala Lumpur, to better understand Tunku’s life and emulate his sacrifices and contributions to the nation.
