Kuala Lumpur, August 18 – Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended his heartfelt congratulations to Khun Paetongtarn Shinawatra on her historic election as the youngest-ever Prime Minister of Thailand. He also acknowledged the significance of this milestone, as she becomes the second woman to hold this esteemed office in Thai history.
In his message, Anwar emphasised the importance of the long-standing partnership between Malaysia and Thailand. “As close neighbours, Malaysia and Thailand share a vital and enduring partnership, forged on long-standing historical, cultural, and economic links, as well as deep-rooted kinship,” he stated.
Anwar expressed his eagerness to work closely with Paetongtarn, highlighting the mutual benefits of peace and development in southern Thailand for communities on both sides of the border. “The common pursuit of peace and development in southern Thailand offers profound benefits for communities on both sides of our border. I look forward to working closely with Paetongtarn to unlock the full potential of our bilateral relationship,” he added.
Anwar also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to former Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. “I also wish to express my sincere appreciation to my dear friend, Srettha, for his visionary leadership in strengthening the bonds between our two nations,” said Anwar.
