Putrajaya, Jan 16— Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that starting today, 3.1 million single individuals will receive direct financial assistance under the expanded Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) initiative, credited directly into their MyKad. The programme, designed to ease the rising cost of living, reflects the MADANI Government’s pledge to deliver targeted, structured and continuous support for basic needs.
Anwar said the improved SARA scheme goes beyond cash aid, injecting new life into the local economy by widening participation of small businesses. “More than just financial assistance, this initiative breathes new life into the local economy. Participation of small shops in the SARA network has been expanded to 10,000 premises nationwide, ensuring wealth circulates back to small traders in towns, villages and rural areas,” he explained.
The Prime Minister emphasised that no citizen should be left behind or marginalised in meeting their basic needs. “Insya‑Allah, the MADANI Government will continue to ensure no one is excluded, no one is sidelined, in our effort to meet the essential needs of the people,” he said.
He added that the initiative embodies the spirit of MADANI—standing equal, moving together to build a future based on justice, prosperity and well‑being for all, aligned with the aspirations of the Kerangka Ekonomi MADANI.
The announcement underscores the government’s dual focus: alleviating individual financial burdens while strengthening grassroots economic participation. Analysts note that by linking aid directly to MyKad and expanding shop networks, the scheme aims to create a more inclusive and sustainable economic ecosystem.
