NILAI, May 13 – Enforcement, Leadership and Management University (ELMU) has launched a bold initiative to empower law enforcement professionals by offering fast-track academic qualifications through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
This initiative, announced by ELMU’s Chief Executive and Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Kassim Noor Mohamed, opens a flexible academic route for experienced officers seeking to convert their real-world expertise into formal qualifications—from diplomas to postgraduate degrees.
“As an institution dedicated to advancing law enforcement, ELMU believes that knowledge gained in the field is just as valuable as classroom learning. Through APEL, officers can receive formal academic credit for the skills, training, and leadership they’ve acquired on the front lines,” said Kassim.
He added that law enforcers bring invaluable experience in areas such as investigations, crisis response, and disaster management, which should be formally recognised.
“We’re helping our law enforcers rise faster through the ranks and strengthening leadership within our enforcement agencies. ELMU is offering APEL.A (Access) across its 11 flagship programmes in Law Enforcement.”
Whether a seasoned senior officer or a young cadet with years of hands-on experience, the APEL route offers a streamlined and efficient path to academic success.In a parallel move to strengthen its academic backbone, Kassim revealed that 16 ELMU academic staff members have been certified as APEL.A assessors.
The training, completed on 20 March in collaboration with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s APEL Centre, equips them to assess candidates applying through the APEL system.
“The training has equipped our academic staff with the essential knowledge to assess APEL.A candidates, paving the way for greater career and academic advancement,” Kassim noted.
