ELMU University Hosts Rapid DNA Seminar To Strengthen Malaysia’s Forensic Preparedness

Nilai, Nov 21 — ELMU University, through its Crime Science Institute (CSI), will host a high-level seminar on Rapid DNA technology for Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) on November 25, 2025, at its Grand Hall in Bandar Enstek.

CSI Project Director Kurian Thomas said the seminar aims to accelerate Malaysia’s forensic readiness and advance DVI capabilities. “The event will gather leading academics, forensic experts and industry innovators to explore the transformative potential of Rapid DNA within the nation’s disaster resilience and forensic preparedness agenda,” he explained.

The seminar will be officiated by Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr. Kassim Noor Mohamed, who will highlight ELMU’s commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s forensic science ecosystem and public safety infrastructure. Deputy Vice Chancellor Dato’ Dr. Yew Chong Hooi will introduce CSI, emphasizing its global alignment with leading centres of excellence.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Rabieahtul Abu Bakar, focusing on strengthening Malaysia’s disaster risk reduction framework through integrated DVI systems. She will stress the urgency of adopting rapid identification tools and integrated data systems.

Lewis Shaw, Field Application Scientist from US-based ANDE Rapid DNA, will present global case studies and conduct a live demonstration of ANDE’s Rapid DNA system, showcasing how compact mobile platforms can significantly shorten forensic turnaround times.

The seminar marks a critical step in reinforcing Malaysia’s forensic infrastructure and advancing CSI’s mission to build safer, more resilient communities.
