KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13, 2024 – Tun Daim Zainuddin, Malaysia’s former Finance Minister and an influential figure in the country’s economic development, was laid to rest today. Renowned for his role in steering Malaysia through significant financial challenges, Daim’s passing has elicited tributes from leaders across the nation, who recognize his contributions to Malaysia’s growth and stability.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, currently in Peru for the APEC Summit, expressed his condolences through Facebook. “I received the news of Tun Daim Zainuddin’s passing upon arriving in Lima, Peru,” he wrote. “My condolences to his family. The government acknowledges his contributions to the nation, especially during his tenure as Finance Minister. Al-Fatihah.”
Former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who worked closely with Daim, paid tribute on Twitter. “Tun Daim was more than a Finance Minister; he was a key strategist in building our economy. His legacy is one of resilience and vision, and he will be missed,” Dr. Mahathir shared.
