Putrajaya, Dec 6 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim convened a pivotal meeting of the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) today, focusing on transformative initiatives to propel Malaysia into a new era of development.
In a Facebook post, Anwar highlighted two critical agendas: the nation’s strategy to establish itself as a regional hub for research and development (R&D) and the future trajectory of GovTech Malaysia. These initiatives aim to position Malaysia as a leader in innovation and technology, reinforcing its competitiveness in the global arena.
What is GovTech?
GovTech refers to the use of advanced technology to enhance public sector efficiency and service delivery. In Malaysia, the GovTech Malaysia initiative is a cornerstone of the government’s digital transformation strategy. It aims to integrate cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, big data, and blockchain into government operations, providing citizens with smarter, faster, and more transparent public services. This aligns with Malaysia Madani’s vision of sustainable, inclusive, and innovative governance.
By advancing GovTech, the government seeks to streamline bureaucratic processes, reduce inefficiencies, and make public services more accessible to all Malaysians. Today’s discussions highlighted its importance as a driving force for economic modernization and regional leadership in digital innovation.

Focus on Public Transport
Equally critical at the MTEN meeting was the discussion on improving public rail transport services in the Klang Valley. The Prime Minister underscored the urgency of addressing service issues and ensuring systematic and immediate implementation of solutions. “This matter requires focused attention for the benefit of city dwellers and to enhance their quality of life,” Anwar remarked.
