Following the ceremonial welcome, Prime Minister Anwar and President Muizzu held a closed-door meeting, before leading their delegations in the Malaysia-Maldives Bilateral Meeting. Discussions centered on enhancing collaboration in key sectors including trade and investment, the halal industry, education, tourism, youth and sports, climate change mitigation, defense, Islamic banking, healthcare, digital technology, solar energy, and artificial intelligence.
“This visit provides an excellent platform for us to elevate our bilateral relations to a more strategic and dynamic level,” Prime Minister Anwar said during a joint press conference held in conjunction with the four-day official visit.
The leaders also exchanged views on pressing regional and global issues, including the humanitarian crises in Myanmar and Gaza, and the implications of new U.S. tariffs on global trade.

A tangible highlight of the visit was the witnessing of the exchange of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Exchanges of Notes (EoNs), covering cooperation in tourism, sports, and healthcare.
The EoNs also paved the way for enhanced diplomatic training and the establishment of bilateral consultation mechanisms between Malaysia and the Maldives — reinforcing the commitment to deeper institutional ties.

President Muizzu, in his remarks, highlighted the strong potential to further strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
He warmly welcomed Malaysian investors to explore growing opportunities in the Maldives, particularly in the special economic zones, business sectors, financial services, maritime economy, and the digital economy.
“Malaysia has long been a trusted partner, and we look forward to expanding cooperation, especially in areas that align with our national development priorities,” Muizzu said.
Beyond the formalities, President Muizzu and his delegation were treated to a luncheon at Seri Perdana, Malaysia’s official residence of the Prime Minister, enlivened by vibrant cultural performances and traditional dances that showcased Malaysia’s rich heritage.

A Partnership for Prosperity
Malaysia and the Maldives share longstanding bonds rooted in Islamic solidarity, people-to-people exchanges, and a mutual commitment to economic progress and sustainable development.
As two dynamic nations in the Indian Ocean region, both countries recognize the immense potential of closer collaboration — especially in areas like tourism promotion, Islamic finance, digital economy growth, climate resilience, and youth empowerment.
This official visit underscores a shared vision for a future where Malaysia and the Maldives stand together as partners for prosperity, resilience, and innovation.
“May the ties between Malaysia and the Maldives continue to grow stronger for the prosperity of both nations,” Prime Minister Anwar expressed.
As Malaysia continues its leadership role as ASEAN Chair in 2025 and as a key player on the global stage, the strengthening of ties with strategic partners like the Maldives signals its commitment to fostering not just regional, but also wider Indian Ocean cooperation built on trust, shared values, and mutual advancement.
