SEPANG, Jan 7 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially launched the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign Monday, setting forth an ambitious vision to elevate Malaysia as a top global tourism destination.

Speaking at Hangar 6, MAB Engineering in Sepang, the Prime Minister outlined the campaign’s goals, which include attracting 35.6 million tourists and generating RM147.1 billion in revenue by 2026.

“Today, we proudly launch this initiative, thanks to the efforts of Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing and his team at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture,” said Anwar. “Our aim is to make Malaysia a leading tourism destination, with every state and community playing a part in this grand vision.”

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism, aligning the campaign with the MADANI framework, which champions sustainability and harmony between development and nature.

“Our goal is to promote tourism that is sustainable for our environment and communities, acting as an engine of economic growth while providing meaningful and memorable experiences to our visitors,” he stated.

Anwar highlighted the unique cultural diversity of Malaysia, describing it as a “multicultural, multiracial society with a rich and sustainable heritage.”

He praised the inclusivity of the campaign, which aims to showcase the strengths of every region in Malaysia, from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak.

The Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign will focus on four key themes: ecotourism and sustainability, modern attractions and innovations, cultural heritage and diversity, and the strength of collaborations and partnerships.

The Prime Minister also humorously noted the need for the Tourism Ministry to generate more revenue rather than seek additional funds.

In his concluding remarks, Anwar called for collective effort from all stakeholders, including state representatives, government agencies, and the private sector, to ensure the success of Visit Malaysia 2026.

“We are successful because we work together. We will work as a team to make 2026 the best year for tourism in this country,” he affirmed.

The launch event was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Yusof, along with other ministers, state leaders, and dignitaries.

The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to all who contributed to the campaign and encouraged continued collaboration to achieve the ambitious goals set for 2026.
