MoUs signal robust demand for Malaysian digital solutions in ASEAN, highlighting investor confidence in scalable cross-border tech partnerships and regional market integration.
JAKARTA, July 3 — In a major step forward for ASEAN digital integration, 83 Malaysian tech firms have signed 26 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Indonesian counterparts, unlocking more than RM450 million in potential digital exports. This milestone was achieved through DEX CONNEX Indonesia, a key initiative by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to strengthen cross-border digital collaboration.
The MoUs cover high-impact sectors such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud services, digital platforms, food & beverage tech, and talent development—in line with Malaysia’s role as 2025 ASEAN Chair, which prioritises innovation and resilience in the region’s economic agenda.
“Indonesia is a vital partner in Malaysia’s digital ambitions,” said MDEC Chief Executive Officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil. “Through DEX CONNEX, we’re focusing on cross-border collaborations to build a resilient digital bridge between two thriving ecosystems.”

He emphasised that the collaboration is aimed at nurturing inclusive and sustainable growth in the region, ensuring long-term value for businesses and society alike.
Strong Regional Support
The initiative received strong backing from the Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta, MITI, MATRADE Jakarta, and Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (KOMDIGI). The MoU exchange ceremony saw the participation of key dignitaries including:
- Dato’ Syed Md Hasrin Tengku Hussin, Ambassador of Malaysia to Indonesia
- Bapak Sonny Hendra Sudaryana, Acting Director of Digital Ecosystems Development, KOMDIGI
- Representatives from HIPPI, HIPMI, MCCI, and private sector leaders from both nations
Part of MDEC’s Proven GAIN Strategy
DEX CONNEX is a flagship programme under MDEC’s GAIN (Gateway, Amplify, Invest and Nurture) initiative, designed to connect Malaysian digital companies to global markets. From 2017 to 2023, the GAIN programme recorded:
- RM31.9 billion in total revenue
- RM11.2 billion in exports
This performance reflects Malaysia’s growing competitiveness as a digital solutions hub for the region, driven by a government-facilitated export platform with deep experience in tech trade.

This MoU package is more than just a commercial milestone—it reflects Malaysia’s shift toward regional digital diplomacy. With the ASEAN digital economy projected to exceed USD1 trillion by 2030, Malaysia is leveraging partnerships like these to shape shared standards in AI governance, cybersecurity interoperability, and data trust.
Malaysia’s ability to scale not just technologies but ecosystem-level collaboration may prove key to its long-term digital competitiveness—particularly as other global players court Southeast Asia’s growing digital middle class.
