KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim underscored the robust ties between Malaysia and the United States during a courtesy call with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits. The meeting, which took place yesterday in Vientiane, Lao PDR, focused on key regional and international issues.
In a Facebook post, Anwar underlined the enduring relationship between Malaysia and the US, citing the vital role the US has played as one of Malaysia’s largest trading partners.
He highlighted the recent influx of investments totaling US$14.7 billion by US tech giants, including Google, Microsoft, Enovix Corporation, Amazon Web Services, Abbott Laboratories, and Boeing. These investments are expected to bolster Malaysia’s technological landscape and economic growth.
In addition to economic discussions, Anwar also expressed his appreciation for the US’s leadership in the passage of UN Security Council Resolution 2735.
The resolution, aimed at addressing critical issues in the Middle East, including the Israel-Palestine conflict, is seen as a pivotal step towards achieving peace in the region.
The Prime Minister urged the US to leverage its global influence to ensure the swift implementation of the resolution, particularly in urging Israel’s compliance with the international mandate. He emphasized that the international community must remain steadfast in pursuing justice and lasting peace in the region.

The meeting was seen as an opportunity to strengthen Malaysia-US relations further, with both nations reaffirming their commitment to fostering regional stability and enhancing economic cooperation.
The day concluded with Prime Minister Anwar and Blinken joining other ASEAN leaders and dignitaries at the Gala Dinner hosted by the Lao PDR government, marking a successful conclusion to another eventful day of diplomatic engagements at the ASEAN Summit.
