KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 – The Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) has issued a statement refuting claims that its Director-General made any comments regarding the recent viral allegations concerning “mamak” restaurants.
The rumors circulating on social media suggest that these restaurants are purchasing sick chickens at low prices or collecting dead chickens for free.
In the official press release, the DOF clarified that the Director-General had never made any statements related to the issue and reminded the public to rely on verified information from trustworthy sources. The department also emphasized that food safety is a critical matter that should not be taken lightly.
The allegations first surfaced through WhatsApp and social media platforms, triggering widespread concern about food safety in eateries across Malaysia. Viral messages claimed that some “mamak” establishments were obtaining unhealthy poultry to save costs, raising questions about food safety standards.
These claims, however, have not been substantiated, and the DOF urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified news. The department stated that all parties involved in the food industry must comply with strict food safety guidelines and that any serious claims regarding food safety should be thoroughly investigated.
