Putrajaya, Nov 18 — Malaysia’s Prime Minister has begun a three-day official visit to Ethiopia, commemorating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The visit underscores Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening ties with Africa, particularly in trade, investment, and education.
During the visit, the Prime Minister held bilateral talks with Ethiopian leaders, focusing on expanding cooperation in aviation, agriculture, and cultural exchanges. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepen collaboration, with Ethiopia welcoming Malaysia’s expertise in education and technology.
The Prime Minister said, “Malaysia values its friendship with Ethiopia, and this milestone reflects our shared vision for prosperity and cooperation.” Ethiopian leaders echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that Malaysia has been a reliable partner in development and international forums.
Cultural programs were also held to celebrate the six-decade relationship, highlighting the shared values and mutual respect between the two nations. The visit is expected to pave the way for new initiatives in trade and people-to-people exchanges.
Malaysia and Ethiopia first established diplomatic relations in 1965. Since then, ties have grown steadily, with cooperation in multilateral platforms such as the African Union and the United Nations. This anniversary visit marks a new chapter in bilateral relations, reinforcing Malaysia’s role as a partner in Africa’s development journey.
