PUTRAJAYA, May 27 – The Malaysian Scouts Association (Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia – PPM) today made history by launching the Scout Biodiversity Proficiency Badge, making it the first local youth organisation in Malaysia to introduce such an environmental initiative.
The launch was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister II, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, alongside Chief Scout of Malaysia, Maj Gen Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Zin Bidin, during the 3rd National Biodiversity Council Meeting held in Putrajaya.
Also present was Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who joined other scout leaders in celebrating the unveiling of the badge, which comes in three distinct designs.
Representing PPM were Deputy Chief National Scout Commissioners Ahmad Sabri Saad and Ts Mohd Hilmi Abu Bakar, National Programme Commissioner Noor Hashim Ismail, and National Programme Secretary Lincoln Tang Tuck Mun.

“This launch is the result of extensive discussions with the Biodiversity Policy Implementation Support Unit of NRES. We’ve now formalised our collaboration with them on biodiversity-focused activities,” said Mohd Hilmi.
He explained that the badge promotes activities such as forest conservation, coral reef protection, and animal ecosystem preservation, reinforcing the Scouts’ role in bringing communities closer to nature.

“This encompasses all living things, including humans, animals, and plants. As Scouts, we will take the lead in safeguarding ecosystems,” he added.
Hilmi also revealed that the badge aligns with the Youth and United Nations Global Alliance (YUNGA) badge framework.
“With its content and structure, we are eligible to receive the YUNGA Badge endorsed by the United Nations,” he said.
The new badge underscores the Scouts’ longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship and global citizenship.
