SEREMBAN, May 28 – In a profound act of solidarity and compassion, Enforcement, Leadership & Management University (ELMU) is offering 18 full scholarships to the families of those affected by the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) Unit 5 Ipoh tragedy, which occurred on 13 May and claimed nine lives while injuring nine others.
The scholarships, worth over RM500,000, are channelled through the ELMU Foundation and will be awarded to the next of kin, including children and immediate family members of each of the 18 affected personnel.
ELMU Chief Executive and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr Kassim Noor Mohamed, stated: “We want to honour those who sacrificed their lives by giving their families a chance to move forward through education. At ELMU, we believe that education is one of the most powerful ways we can honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.”
He added that these scholarships will cover full tuition and related educational expenses, creating a meaningful academic pathway for each beneficiary.
In addition to the scholarships, the ELMU Foundation has contributed RM22,500 in direct financial aid, distributed evenly among all 18 families to provide immediate support.
This contribution forms part of a wider collective effort involving over RM738,000 in aid raised through various government agencies, charitable organisations, and corporate donors.
Contributors include the Perak Contingent Police Welfare and Bereavement Fund, the Royal Malaysia Police Cooperative, Yayasan Insan Sakan, YAPEIM, Lumut Maritime Terminal Sdn Bhd, and ELMU University.
The aid was officially presented by Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, during a ceremony at the Senior Officers’ Mess, Perak Contingent Police Headquarters in Ipoh.
With several officers still in critical care, the FRU community and public continue to rally behind the affected families, offering support and prayers.
ELMU is inviting interested families to apply for the scholarships via the ELMU Foundation. The university remains committed to its vision of accessible and lifelong learning, being the first full-fledged university in Malaysia focused on law enforcement education from Foundation to PhD level.
