Kuala Lumpur, Jan 10 — Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad remains under treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) following a hip fracture sustained from a fall at his residence on Jan 6, 2026.

In a media statement issued by his office, aide Sufi Yusoff confirmed that after consultations with specialists from IJN, HUKM, and HKL, doctors decided on physiotherapy without surgery as the best option given Mahathir’s age. The recovery process is expected to take considerable time.
Mahathir, who turned 100 last year, is currently not allowed visitors except for close family members. His family expressed gratitude for the public’s concern and prayers, noting that the former statesman remains in stable condition.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim earlier conveyed prayers for Mahathir’s recovery, reflecting the bipartisan respect he continues to command. Messages of support have poured in from across Malaysia, underscoring his enduring influence in national life.
As Malaysia navigates 2026, Mahathir’s health update serves as a reminder of the legacy of its longest-serving leader, whose resilience continues to inspire even in moments of vulnerability.
