Former prime minister expected to remain under observation for several weeks; Anwar conveys prayers for recovery

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 — Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) after suffering a hip fracture following a fall earlier today.
In a statement, his office said the incident occurred at his residence at about 7.30am. Tun Dr Mahathir was later taken by ambulance to IJN at around 9.30am for medical assessment. He was conscious upon arrival, and subsequent examinations confirmed a fracture to his hip.
Doctors have advised that the 100-year-old statesman will require treatment and close monitoring, and is expected to remain hospitalised for several weeks as part of his recovery process.
Tun Dr Mahathir, Malaysia’s longest-serving prime minister and a central figure in the country’s political development, has remained active in public discourse despite his age. News of his hospitalisation prompted widespread concern and well-wishes from Malaysians across the political spectrum.
Prime Minister Sends Well-Wishes
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended his prayers for Tun Dr Mahathir’s recovery in a message shared on Facebook.
“Saya dan Azizah mendoakan keafiatan dan kesembuhan segera buat Tun, Insya-Allah,” Anwar wrote, expressing hopes for the former leader’s health and swift recovery.
Messages of support have continued to pour in, reflecting Tun Dr Mahathir’s enduring influence and place in Malaysia’s national history.
