SEPANG, April 17 – Chinese President Xi Jinping received an official farewell from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today as he concluded his three-day state visit to Malaysia, marking a pivotal chapter in Malaysia–China relations.
The dignified send-off took place at Kompleks Bunga Raya, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), where President Xi and his delegation were given a formal salute by the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Honour Guard).
President Xi’s aircraft, operated by Air China, departed KLIA at 10.04am local time en route to Cambodia — the next leg of his regional diplomatic tour. Accompanying Prime Minister Anwar was Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who also bid farewell to the Chinese delegation.
The farewell ceremony followed a historic three-day visit that saw the signing of 31 strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across various sectors, including digital economy, defence, tourism, education, media, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
“This visit has elevated the special relationship between Malaysia and China to new heights — one built on strategic trust, mutual respect, and prosperity for both nations,” Anwar had said during the MoU exchange witnessed jointly with Xi.
President Xi’s visit was held in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship and came on the heels of the 50th anniversary of Malaysia–China diplomatic ties celebrated in 2024. His itinerary included an audience with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and bilateral talks with Anwar focused on regional stability, economic collaboration, and cultural diplomacy.
The three-day programme underscored not only political commitment but also personal rapport between both leaders — symbolised in today’s farewell gesture led personally by the Prime Minister himself.
