Batu Pahat, Oct 28 — Nine men aged between 18 and 35 were arrested after a violent brawl erupted at a restaurant in Rengit, Batu Pahat late Sunday night, following a noise complaint that escalated into a public disturbance and went viral on social media.
The 10.30pm incident, captured in a 1-minute-40-second video, showed a group of men arguing before one flipped a motorcycle. The confrontation quickly turned violent, with chairs, tables, helmets, and other objects hurled across the eatery, causing damage and panic among diners.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed the arrests, stating that officers acted on a report and detained the suspects at 12.10am on Monday. All nine have been remanded for four days to assist investigations under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons.
“This was a serious public disturbance. We are investigating the motive and urge the public not to speculate while the case is ongoing,” Shahrulanuar said.
The restaurant has since resumed operations, while police continue to record witness statements and review CCTV footage to determine if more individuals were involved.
