LIMA, Peru, Nov 15 – — At the 2024 APEC CEO Summit in Lima, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in fostering economic development while maintaining ethical safeguards. Speaking at a dialogue session alongside global technology leaders, Anwar highlighted the need for inclusive policies, regional collaboration, and ethical AI frameworks to ensure that societal values are upheld in the digital age.
“As policymakers, we must leverage AI responsibly to enhance overall economic development and improve the well-being of our people,” Anwar wrote on his Facebook page, underscoring Malaysia’s commitment to driving sustainable growth.

Anwar also reaffirmed Malaysia’s leadership as it prepares to chair ASEAN in 2025. He called for stronger partnerships between governments, industries, and communities to unlock opportunities in the digital space, ensuring no one is left behind amid rapid technological advancement.

The APEC 2024 forum, hosted in Peru for the third time, operates under the theme “Empower, Include, Grow.” It brings together 21 member economies that account for 62% of the world’s GDP. Peru’s agenda focuses on inclusive and sustainable growth, including empowering vulnerable economic actors and advancing innovation. Activities during the forum are being held across Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, and other cities, reflecting the diverse strengths of the host nation.
Malaysia’s active participation at APEC reinforces its global economic engagement and commitment to leveraging technology for equitable progress.
