PUTRAJAYA, Sept 22 – Malaysia has categorically rejected what it described as “malicious attempts” to misinterpret its long-standing political support and humanitarian efforts for the Palestinian people.
In a statement today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said Malaysia’s position is rooted in fundamental principles of its foreign policy: peace, justice, respect for the United Nations Charter and international law, and peaceful co-existence among nations.
“Malaysia has consistently advocated for peace, justice, respect for the United Nations Charter and international law, as well as for peaceful co-existence among and between nations. These fundamental principles have been the foundation of Malaysia’s foreign policy since its independence,” the statement read.
Malaysia reiterated its opposition to colonisation, foreign occupation, gross violations of human rights and humanitarian law, and apartheid.
“Malaysia’s steadfast support for the struggle of the Palestinians… and Malaysia’s strong opposition to the occupation and genocide committed against them by the Zionist Israeli regime… are clearly in line with these core and universally recognised principles,” MFA stressed.
The ministry further reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to humanitarian assistance for Palestinians and to efforts toward establishing an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
It also emphasized that justice and accountability are crucial for lasting peace, noting that Israel must be held accountable for its persistent violations of international law.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has defended Malaysia’s approach as consistent with its long-standing foreign policy, rooted in principles of justice and opposition to apartheid and occupation.
