Manjung, Jan 10 – Member of Parliament (MP) for Beruas, Ngeh Koo Ham, demonstrated a remarkable act of forgiveness following an unfortunate incident. His residence in Ayer Tawar, Perak, was engulfed in flames earlier today, damaging three of his vehicles. Addressing the media, Ngeh expressed his forgiveness towards the perpetrators behind the arson, despite the damage caused to his property.
“I forgive those who intended to set fire to my cars, my house, and cause harm to my family,” stated Ngeh Koo Ham, emphasizing his understanding of the potential misguided actions driven by false beliefs or external influence.
Ngeh, a prominent figure in the Democratic Action Party (DAP) in Perak, showcased his legal background and extensive public service experience, acknowledging that involvement in criminal activities does not lead to a fulfilling life.
“As an attorney who has served in public office for a long time, I know that being involved in crime does not lead to a happy life,” added Ngeh, while extending an invitation for change and urging individuals to become responsible citizens for the sake of their families.
The suspected reason behind this attack is linked to statements made by Ngeh in the media on December 28 last year. This controversial suggestion involving non-Islamic Constitutional experts in the evaluation of Islamic laws had garnered criticism from various quarters.
Acknowledging the situation and the misinterpretation of his previous statement, Ngeh clarified, “The only reason I suspect this attack occurred is due to the media statement I issued on December 28 last year.”
Throughout the discussion with the press, Ngeh reiterated his commitment to professionalism in politics, emphasizing his reluctance to engage in conflicts while striving to uphold a level of professionalism in all his endeavors.
The fire incident at Ngeh’s residence prompted a discussion about his controversial proposition, which was construed by some political figures as interference in Islamic affairs. Subsequently, Ngeh publicly apologized and retracted his suggestion after it received widespread criticism.
