SEREMBAN, July 8, 2026 – The success of the NS Matrix Fencing Festival 2026 has reinforced the importance of closer collaboration between corporate organisations, government agencies and sporting associations in building a sustainable sports ecosystem capable of producing future talent while contributing to the local economy.
Hosted by the Negeri Sembilan Fencing Association (NSFA) with title sponsor NS Matrix, the four-day international tournament attracted more than 700 individual entries and 42 team entries from 11 countries, making it one of Malaysia’s largest fencing events and further strengthening Negeri Sembilan’s ambition to develop fencing and sports tourism.
NSFA President Tengku Datuk Muadzam Sadruddin said the festival demonstrated that sustainable sports development today extends beyond organising competitions, requiring long-term partnerships between the private sector, government stakeholders and sporting bodies.
“Sports associations provide the technical expertise and athlete development pathway, but sustainable growth can only be achieved when corporate partners and government agencies work together towards the same vision,” he said. “When every stakeholder contributes, we are not only organising tournaments, we are investing in young talent, creating opportunities for local athletes and generating wider economic benefits for the state.”
The festival received strong support from NS Matrix, whose continued commitment has enabled the association to organise an international-standard event while expanding opportunities for Malaysian fencers to compete against overseas opponents without the financial burden of travelling abroad.

The tournament also highlights the evolving role of corporate sponsorship, which increasingly focuses on long-term community development, youth empowerment and environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments rather than traditional branding exercises.
Beyond the competition, the influx of athletes, coaches, officials and accompanying family members both from overseas and around the country generated increased demand for hotels, transportation, restaurants and other local businesses, underscoring the growing economic value of sports tourism.

NSFA believes such events can serve as an important catalyst for regional economic activity while enhancing Negeri Sembilan’s profile as a destination capable of hosting international sporting competitions. The association said stronger collaboration with relevant government agencies will be equally important in sustaining that momentum, particularly in areas such as tourism promotion, youth development, education and community engagement.
According to Tengku Datuk Muadzam Sadruddin, the long-term objective is to establish a development model where sporting associations, corporate partners and public agencies work together to strengthen grassroots participation while creating a pipeline of athletes capable of competing on the international stage.

“Every successful sporting ecosystem is built on partnership. The private sector provides investment, government agencies provide policy, institutional support and development funding, while sporting associations develop the athletes. Together, we can create something that delivers lasting value not only for the sport but also for the wider community,” he said.
Following the successful staging of this year’s festival, NSFA plans to continue expanding the event’s international reach while attracting more strategic partners to further position Negeri Sembilan as a destination for fencing in Southeast Asia.

The festival, sanctioned by the Malaysian Fencing Federation, played a pivotal role in unlocking strategic support and funding from key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Negeri Sembilan State Government. This multi-level backing underscores the event’s growing significance as a local sports development platform, reinforcing its role in advancing high-performance pathways while driving sports tourism and regional engagement — further cementing the festival’s position as a priority initiative within Malaysia’s sports ecosystem.
Industry observers say the festival demonstrates how coordinated investment in sport can deliver benefits beyond competition, contributing to talent development, destination branding and local economic growth through sports tourism.
