KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 – Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has issued a strong and compassionate statement condemning the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, describing it as an act of “calculated and inhuman cruelty.”
The attack, which took place in the scenic and once-peaceful tourist destination of Pahalgam, reportedly involved the deliberate segregation and execution of victims, suggesting a chilling level of premeditation and brutality. Although full details remain under investigation, the incident has already drawn international condemnation.
In a statement released on his official Facebook page, Anwar Ibrahim expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the victims and their families.
“I strongly condemn the recent attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir,” he wrote. “Reports that victims were deliberately segregated before being executed highlight the calculated and inhuman cruelty of this assault. Such violence has no place in any civilised society.”
Offering condolences on behalf of Malaysia, the Prime Minister added:
“On behalf of all Malaysians, I extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. We pray for the swift and full recovery of those injured.”
While reaffirming Malaysia’s firm opposition to terrorism in all forms, Anwar also urged for restraint, wisdom, and unity in responding to such acts. He warned against allowing these tragedies to fuel hatred or deepen divisions.
“In moments of tragedy, wisdom and restraint are essential. We must not allow such acts of terror to deepen division. Instead, let us reaffirm our shared commitment — in the region and beyond — to peace, justice, and human dignity.”
A Call to the Global Community
Prime Minister Anwar went further by urging the international community to stand together in pursuit of justice and accountability. He emphasized that impunity must not be tolerated and that the perpetrators of such atrocities must be brought to justice.
“We also call upon the international community to support efforts to identify any remaining perpetrators and ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice — and that such atrocities are neither repeated nor rewarded.”
A Broader Message of Peace
Anwar’s remarks come at a time when global tensions remain high, and his words carry weight as Malaysia holds the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025. His statement not only condemns terrorism but also reinforces a broader message: that peace and human dignity must always prevail over hatred and violence.
While the identities and affiliations of the attackers are still under investigation, the attack itself has left a deep scar on a region already struggling with decades of conflict. Anwar’s voice joins that of other global leaders calling for accountability and renewed efforts to combat terrorism through solidarity, empathy, and international cooperation.
